Pioneering topics and innovative products are Dr. Kerstin Bäcker’s playground. For over two decades, she has been involved in adapting the legal framework to new technological developments and the resulting strategic adjustments and emerging business models, ranging from the responsibility of platforms and social media for user content (YouTube, Cyberlocker, etc.) to NFTs and artificial intelligence.
Her current focus is on the European and international regulation of artificial intelligence, particularly the AI Act, and the development of comprehensive compliance strategies to ensure the responsible global use of AI. She combines legal expertise with a holistic, economically oriented view of copyright, data protection, and technological innovations. She has many years of experience providing legal support to companies in the business and media sectors, including educational companies, publishers, audio and music companies, and internationally active cultural institutions. She assists her clients in exploiting the economic opportunities of new developments worldwide in a legally compliant manner. Dr. Kerstin Bäcker is also a recognised specialist in collective rights management, providing comprehensive advice on issues relating to international collecting societies.
Studied in Munich and Paris (Assas II), doctorate in copyright law. International positions in Paris, Cape Town, Melbourne, Barcelona. With LAUSEN since 2002, partner and head of the Cologne office since 2004. Sought-after lecturer and specialist speaker (including TÜV Rheinland Akademie, Akademie der Deutschen Medien, Steinbeis Institute). Speaker and moderator at international events such as Hamburg Business Summer School, Initiative Verlegerrecht, Forum Bildung, Data Festival, Medientage München and c/o Pop – with a focus on AI and AI regulation. Author of specialist publications and (co-)editor of the Handbuch Kulturmanagement.
